On the day I get summer tires, it's the coldest day in a week.

Oh well. Initial impressions are that they are significantly better than the factory Potenzas, while costing $60 less per corner, due to scientific testing done by me by judging cornering speeds.

South Carolina. That said, it’s been an unusually cold winter here.

It’s crested past 50, so no snow. I have a backup vehicle for that occasion anyway.

Both my cars only have summer tires on them right now.

This is always a tough comparison to make - we become accustomed to older tires, their reduced performance and increased noise and then get new tires and are thrilled with the newfound grip and quieter ride.

I based it off of a speeds I could achieve when the tires were new, and I came from all seasons, so summers are definitely stickier.

I have never driven a car with Bridgestone Potenzas on and thought “hmmm these are great tyres!!” Including my current Leon which still has its factory fitted ones on (will replace with ANYTHING else when they are due), either of our Mazda 3s that had them on from the factory nor my friends old 350z which had it’s own special ones designed just for the 350z. All of them were loud and useless in anything but perfect warm summer days, which the UK does not get a lot of!!

They worked okay stock, but the cheap all seasons I put on weren’t much worse in the corners.

You had problems with Potenzas on your FiST? We’re they true S04 Potenza Pole Positions?

I’mon Conti DSW06's this year, went oversize with new wheels and with a wider base, I am loving them.

RE050A’s, they were okay, but nothing to write home about. Way too expensive for what you got. Also only 170tw.

I hate how at the first sign of slight dampness in the air they just have no traction at all when trying to pull away at anything other than a snails pace, and they are so loud on anything other than brand new, perfectly smooth tarmac!!!

Oh gotcha, i had a friend get me a set of S04's for the FoST last year, they were excellent and cheaper than their primary competition Michelin PS with only a coupld tradeoffs.

that happened to me. the first year I ever bought winter tires (Blizzaks on my SRT-4) it hardly got below freezing and didn’t even snow until like February.

Also as side note, expect tires to be a little “squirmy” first 200-500 miles to allow mold release agent on tires to scrub off (i.e. break in). Will noticably improve then as well. Nexen has some really nice wet grip on those too. Great bang for the buck w them. Source: former rep.

I liked the Nexen All Seasons (N5000 Plus) I had before as a daily, I just pushed them past their limit a few too many times. My Mom has the N5000's too, on her Vibe, and they have around 50-60k miles on them now.

Potenza RE-71Rs are amazing...for autocross. Terrible for daily driving.
